Meet the Goulds
We’re David and Samantha Gould, the husband and wife team behind Paradise Cottage Care.
David is the handyman, owner, and face of Paradise Cottage Care. He uses his extensive background in painting, carpentry, machine building, and maintenance to provide all services. Having spent years working with metal, he now prefers to work with wood, paint, and smaller machines. He combines creativity and business acumen to provide excellent service to our clients.
Samantha is the administrative assistant and marketing director at Paradise Cottage Care. She uses her marketing expertise and administrative background to support the business’s bookkeeping and marketing efforts.
How It Started
Before founding Paradise Cottage Care, David spent many years working as a machine builder and then as a maintenance man. He then transitioned to being a painter and handyman while working as a subcontractor.
Throughout all of these experiences, some of the leaders he worked under didn’t always run their businesses with integrity. He felt (and still feels) that customers deserve more. So he reached out to others in the area to see if the need was real – and it was.
Wanting to serve people how he felt they deserved to be treated, David started his own business. To listen to people’s goals, not just their project requirements. To be the attentive handyman everyone needs – who’s just a phone call or text away.
Like all small businesses, it started small, but over time, more people reached out to him with their project requests and questions. Since then, we have expanded our service area to meet the needs of more people while still being within driving distance of our home near Paradise Lake (also known as Carp Lake by the locals).
As the business has grown, we have chosen to niche down. What started as a general handyman company has streamlined to focus primarily on David’s expertise in painting and staining. This allows us to best serve our clients.
What’s in a Name?
“Paradise” does come from Paradise Lake, but it’s also the Northern Michigan spirit. We live in paradise. Tourists and snowbirds flock to this area. Those, like us, who live here year-round, as well as the snowbirds, needed an attentive handyman to help them realize the paradise at their fingertips.

Who Do We Serve?
We primarily serve seniors, snowbirds, and busy professionals. We work on primary residences, Airbnbs, rental homes, and vacation homes.

Up front, we are clear about our expertise and experience – we’ll never lie about our skills or licenses. We also provide all of our clients with itemized bills and copies of receipts, so it is clear what we are billing for. When serving a client who is not local, we often provide them with photos of project progress.
Goal-Focused
We don’t just work on projects; we help you accomplish your goals. We have turned down thousands of dollars of work because we aim to get to the root goal of a client’s project request. That means we ask a lot of questions. We don’t just want to make sure the project is in our wheelhouse; we also want to make sure the project will meet your long-term goals.
Debt-Free
We started our business with some cash from our own savings and continue to build the business debt-free. We grow our business the old-fashioned way – by cash-flowing one tool at a time. We also don’t want any of our clients to be indebted to us, which is why most of our clients pay incrementally for large projects.
Responsive
We communicate with our clients via phone calls, texts, and emails. We aim to be open about our availability, and when we aren’t available, we aim to respond within about 1 business day. We also try to complete consultations as soon as possible – either in person or over the phone.
