Project Timelines

Whether you have a project in mind that will take 8 hours or 8 weeks or more, we’re happy to help you meet your long-term goals. We do one-off projects, large projects that take weeks to complete, and recurring projects – whatever you need. Our only minimum requirement is a full 8-hour workday for any projects in the U.P.

Cost

Projects estimated at less than $1,000 are billed as a project.

Projects estimated at more than $1,000 can be billed as a project or at $50 per hour, depending on the project scope. We typically bill in increments as work is completed, but clients can pay in advance if they choose to.

Clients also pay for all project materials at cost. Clients can pay for materials in advance, or we can purchase them and charge the client for those materials. If the materials will cost $250 or more, we ask the client to pay for them up front.

Reviews from some of our happy customers

Mary Brown

We give our highest recommendation to David Gould. He is honest, dependable, and hard-working. He comes when he says he will and works hard while there. He is professional, communicates consistently, and will research a process or product to make sure he’s doing a top-notch job. David recently sanded and refinished the exterior logs on our cabin, and it looks brand new! Without hesitation, we will continue to use his services in the future. A five star rating!

I’ll definitely use his services again. Highly recommended.

I hired Paradise Cottage care last year to take care of my cabin in Mackinaw. I’ve been absolutely satisfied with the service and the cost. Always on time, never disappointed. I’ve already hired them to take care of my cottage again this year.

Karen Madden

Very detail oriented. No mess left behind. Very satisfied with his work.

Millie Donovan

David came to my house in St. Ignace. He power washed the moss and debris off my roof. Roof looks like new although it’s several years old. He also did a few small general maintenance repairs. Great job, I plan to have him back in the future to do a couple of projects we discussed. Came at time he said he would and stayed until all my jobs were completed. Very happy customer.

Robert LaFleur

David was very professional, took off shoes before entering the house and was just ready to go from that moment on.

I’ll definitely use his services again. Highly recommended.

Paul Johnson

David did great work for us. Above and beyond the call. We are super pleased with his work.

Project Questions

What is the difference between project materials and tools?

Project materials are items that stay at the client’s house. For example, paint and flooring. The client pays for project materials.

Project tools are items that we use to work on projects. For example, a power washer, ladders, and a staple gun. We pay for project tools.

I have a property that isn’t in your service area. Will you still work on my project?

Contact us and we’ll review your request. If your property is within a reasonable distance of our service area, we may still work with you.

However, please note that we will not travel to Paradise, MI, for a project.

I have a project that isn’t listed as one of your services. Will you still work on my project?

Contact us and we’ll review your request. We often work on projects that don’t exactly align with our top services. If we can’t work on your project, we may be able to recommend another contractor who can help.

Billing Questions

Do you charge for consultations?

No. We offer free in-person, over-the-phone, and email consultations. Most of our clients prefer to meet us in person or at least over the phone before deciding to work with us.

Will you send me a bid?

We can send you a bid to help you estimate costs. However, for projects over $1,000, we find that our clients prefer to pay as we work because it usually saves our clients money.

Most contractors bid high so they are less likely to lose money working on a project. We aim to only charge our clients for the time it took to complete a project, which is usually less than what is estimated in a bid. So, when we send a client a bid, they have the option to pay in full upfront, but we prefer that they pay in increments as we go.

Will I need to pay a retainer?

We want to earn your trust before we request payment for services, which is why we do not require that our clients pay a retainer. We do, however, request that our clients sign a contract before we schedule project dates. The contract spells out the legal details that protect you as a client and our business. When signing this contract, you will see a $0 payment for the retainer fee.

For projects that will require large material purchases before we can begin project work, we may ask you to either purchase or pay for those materials for our team to purchase on your behalf. This is an act of good faith on the client’s part and helps our team start on your project sooner. In the event that we are unable to move forward with your project for any reason, we will return your materials to you.

How can I pay my bill?

Our clients can pay via debit or credit card, ACH, or with a check made payable to Paradise Cottage Care.

We send bills primarily via email but can also print them out if we are meeting a client in person. Please note that paying via debit card, credit card, or ACH is only available online via emailed bills.

Why do you bill in increments?

We run our business completely debt-free. We also don’t want any of our clients to be indebted to us. This is why we prefer our clients to pay in increments for large projects, such as $1,000 increments.
